About this deal

Let me also point out that I never could smell the rose, patchouli, or the bergamot not on my skin anyways. The first time I tried this was in an airport duty free shop right before I boarded a long flight home. I couldn't smell anything, which was odd, but the person sitting next to me sure smelled good. I considered asking him if it was his or his girlfriend's fragrance, but they didn't speak my language and I didn't speak theirs, so I let it go. And then... later when I walked down the aisle and passed a flight attendant I noticed her perfume was that same deliciousness I smelled on the people sitting next to me. When this came out I couldn't deal with the sweet and gourmand facets, and basically ignored it. Now that I've found an-almost full 50 ml bottle in a thrift shop, it's interesting to re-assess LPRN since all the fuss has died down. I don't know how a fragrance house can make me semi-psychotic about getting a bottle of almost cherry-flavoured medicine, but Guerlain win that particular trophy. I like the way both spray methods smell. Maybe the difference is actually just my imagination because I didn't do any scientific experiment? Oh well it's what I'm getting. Lol.

So, as far as almonds go. Not a huge fan of the smell, nor eating them. Maybe I am an enigma. I don't like how they taste as a nut, or how they are as a milk, and I have not liked almond fragrances.Their longevity is decent. After few hours, only sweet notes remain close to the skin - which is a standard for me. I am having the hardest time articulating my thoughts about Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire (EDP). I really like it, that I know for sure. Every time I take a big sniff of my wrists I have a split second where I think I can smell every single individual note, but then the second passes and I can't smell every note, just a wonderful blend of them: cherry, almond, licorice, tea, vanilla, rose, tonka bean, patchouli, iris, etc. I love the idea of sour cherries alongside almond and tonka with soft spices like licorice and anise. In practice it smells like buying gourmet licorice in an old fashioned candy store. The sweet gourmand cough syrup of my dreams, hehe.

Also a slight hint of powder that might be from the iris, but I feel this is what gives it an old-school femme fatale vibe to it. I feel like I should be carrying a long cigarette holder while wearing this (I don't smoke). I keep testing this fragrance in the hope that I might eventually like it enough to buy a full bottle. It has everything going for it; it's a Guerlain with an affordable price, good longevity and projection, and a nice bottle design. Having smelled a lot of perfume in the last decade and shed some of my own snooty views (I hope), and now that most of the flankers are gone, I can at last appreciate this, the 2012 EDP. The opening is joyful, and although the cherry berry sweetness still bothers me a little, I can smell through it to the many other notes and accords. I get most of them including a teasing little plastic accord somewhere in there, and superb patchouli at the end.Sort of reminds me of a not so sweet potpourri - which also sort of reminds me of the department store haha. Woooh. Ok. Good news- I can smell ever note listed! That is unusual for me, maybe my sniffer is becoming more refined. It was exciting for me to smell all! Base notes touch down so well after a little cherry bombing some more. No, this is more of a subdued lament. A tinge of sadness at what I had assumed was going to be a guaranteed love-match...only to be left feeling somewhat unfulfilled. I was supposed to love this perfume; alas upon purchasing it, I merely platonically like it.
