MARCUS MeLdrew has a face like a mouse. Marcus Meldrew has a face like a Moose! Moosey Marcus . . . ( H e’s s topped loo ki ng now.) 9 While a few nice messages are wrapped up in this tale, the book centers around one thing—silly fun. Tom is pretty normal for his age, and his mind wanders everywhere but in the responsible direction. He's a nice guy and simply tries to get through the chaos called life as best he can, which makes him easy to relate to. The situations he runs into come from daily life and reflect those which average kids will face. And while all of it seems dramatic at times, it's Tom's very honest, uncensored thoughts, which make it a hilarious read. I think this book was really brilliant, it was so funny, and the drawings were really good. I would definitely like to read the other books in this series! 5 stars There’s a bit of trivia about the things that interest Tom and his friends, and a British-to-American English glossary, but most of the information surrounds Tom’s plans to get out of doing homework.I initially thought of giving these books two starts, but I think one star really is showing the reality of these books much better. Do not bother. Then Derek comes over (he’s in Mrs. Worthington’s class, not mine, because we chat too much). I’ve seen him loads during t he s u mme r. (H i s h a i r h a s grown — h e hasn’t.) I show him my ideas and drawings for a band name. (He likes DOGZOMBIES best . . . me, too.) When Marcus Meldrew barges into our chat. . . . “What’s that?” “Ideas for our band.” “What band?” “Me and Derek are in a band, and we’re thinking of what to call ourselves.” “That’s easy.” “Really?” (Marcus has an idea.) 33 funnyI know . . . The author did a great job of being very believable!

They provide a very poor example for kids to grow. They are written to be funny and attractive, by using negative behaviours and pretending they are normal, by promoting a way of thinking that is toxic and by stigmatizing pretty much everyone in the family and school of the main character. Common Sense is the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century. Exciting news! Mr Fullerman announces that class 5F are going on an activity break! Which should be fun. Tom does doodles in his school book of monsters and aliens, and these pictures are all through the story, which I thought made the book look really cool. Fans of Tom Gates will be pleased to hear that the latest book in the series from Liz Pichon is now available for quizzing. Liz recently read part of the first book in the series as part of our Read to a Million Kids campaign – you can watch the video here. The latest book, Tom Gates is Absolutely Fantastic (at some things), sees Tom and his class go on an adventure holiday trip. Cue midnight feasts, capsized boats, and mischievous practical jokes. Tom also discovers the creative medium of banana doodles, which we in the quizzing team have very much enjoyed trying out for ourselves!SNOring — and th at was keeping me awake too. What do you think about how Tom treats his sister, Delia? Does it seem typical of brothers and sisters? Tom forgot to get his form filled out for the three day school trip, but with everything going on in his life, that isn't surprising. His sister, Delia, is a pain, his grandparents sweet but odd, and his own parents...well, let's not even go there. The daily school drama doesn't help things either. But after a lot of effort and even more forgetting, he finally gets his form in and snags a spot thanks to a cancellation. But once the bus is underway, he's in for anything but a boring adventure. Tom is a Tween that always arrives late to school, hates maths, calls his grandparents "The fossils", thinks his sister is extremely annoying and his parents are boring. With random thoughts in the ridiculousness of every day adventure, this is a fun tale with tons of illustrations and zest.

Tom Gates is Absolutely Fantastic' follows our lively and young protagonist Tom. This time the novel centres mostly around his school excursion or "School Activity Trip" which, because he is so forgetful, our dear Tom almost misses out on. It was a nice little novel that I laughed at many times. Some of the most annoying characters return in this novel such as the despicable and arrogant Marcus and the face-pulling new girl-next-door. Delia surprises Tom in this novel as she does him a great big favour which enables him to succeed in a competition which really surprises out main lead. Highly recommended for middle-grade and children audience. It sounds like you had a very eventful time, Tom! Excellent work. I felt like I was there . . . but glad I wasn’t! Merit Points 28 Not everything is absolutely horrible, there are some interesting and imaginative games displayed in the books here and there. Dancing and being part of a music band are definitely positive. The setup and the atmosphere of the books are so horrible that they make any good detail here and there completely irrelevant.

I recommend this book to especially middle grade boys who love a little fun because they will definitely find it here.Families can talk about the humor and prankster spirit in the Tom Gates series. Not a thing. . . . To add the cherry on top of the cake, the books also promote consumerism and an unhealthy lifestyle. Big TVs, new clothes, BIG disco parties, high sugar food and drinks are always shown as desirable and even necessary.
