About this deal

You can see from the images above that even at 90-inches, it’s difficult to see the individual pixels of the image unless you are right up against it. From a normal viewing distance, this image size still looks spectacular. The XGIMI Elfin has a single HDMI 2.0 input on the rear that can take a full 4K input with HDR, so you can plug in external devices, too. It isn’t an HDMI ARC input, so if you want to use external speakers, you’ll need to use the 3.5mm audio output or connect the projector to a Bluetooth speaker. Additional cooling vents can be found on the underside of the Elfin, as well as a standard tripod mount, which is probably the easiest way to precisely position the projector where you want it. Fortunately, it’s still easier to overlook when you keep the picture smaller. We notice it plainly when the display is stretched upwards of 80 inches, but it will hide better if your aim is a more TV-like 50- or 60-inch projection. It’s very clever and means that no matter where you plug in the Elfin, you’ll get the best picture possible. Of course, you can override the settings if you want manual control. Performance The included remote – also in white – works beautifully. It connects via Bluetooth, so you don’t need to contort your arm to point it at the device. It’s a small detail that most people wouldn’t even notice, but portable projectors that use infra-red remotes require you to do just that.

For Android users, the XGIMI team is currently working on updating this feature; please stay tuned. The XGIMI Elfin has 3W stereo speakers built in, so it can handle your video and audio together. The speakers offer surprisingly impactful audio for their size. They can get more than loud enough for a modest living room, say 200 sq ft, just fine. Though don’t plan on letting your friends talk over the speakers, because they may succeed.Auto keystone correction will always get you a square picture, although it’s best to try to get the Elfin as square on as possible first. New to this projector is Intelligent Obstacle Avoidance – if the projector spots a light switch or other protrusion, it will adjust the screen size to avoid it. Testing on my wall, the Elfin automatically avoided the consumer unit on the wall. The MoGo 2 is always going to be more obvious and you probably wouldn’t want to leave it out after use – this will need a drawer to live in.

The XGIMI Elfin is installed with the Official Google Android TV system, granting you full access to the Google service eco-system. The remote works via Bluetooth and must be paired at first start up, but note that you do need 2 x AAA batteries which are not included. There’s no major input lag. I’ve seen it measured at about 26ms, and it’s not noticeable for casual gaming. One welcome design touch is the standard tripod mount on the bottom. We made good use of this, bolting it to our full-size photography tripod to swiftly whip up the perfect adjustable projector stand.
